An abundance of special interest sports groups can be found throughout the expatriate community in Jakarta. Most groups are organized by volunteers in the community using community and public facilities. If you don't see a group for a sport you enjoy below ... start a group and let us know about it and we'll add you to the list!

Children's sports are organized by parents, mostly utilizing the facilities at the international schools. The coordinating body for youth sports for children attending the Jakarta International School is the Youth Sports Council. Larger international schools begin competitive sports programs for children in the 9th grade, at about age 14.

Aerobics

Aerobics courses are offered at most fitness centers, sports clubs and recreation clubs.

Badminton

Play at most fitness centers and sports clubs. ISCI has 4 courts and holds regular club days and tournaments. JIS has after school programs through JIS Academy.

Ballet

Several good ballet schools can be found in Jakarta. Cecilia Ballet in Kemanggisan has teachers who speak English. Tel. 533-2064 - speak with Ade.

Baseball

Jakarta Youth Baseball Association - call JIS for current contact info.

Basketball


Boys' and Girls' Basketball is organized for children attending JIS by parents through the Youth Sports Council.

Darts are played at many pubs and night spots around Jakarta, try Bugils in Taman Ria Senayan, Star Deli in Kemang and Sportsman's Bar in Blok M.

Diving enthusiasts can contact the various dive shops for information on diving groups.

Equestrian / Horseback Riding

There are several stables in outlying areas of Jakarta, including Bogor, and wonderful vacation destinations in Havana Horses in Salatiga, and Kuta Horses in Lombok where you can rent a horse.

Football, Soccer

Asian Soccer Academy - In collaboration with professional British Premier League soccer clubs and international partners such as Kelme (Spain), British Council, Coca Cola, Nestle, UNICEF and USAID, ASA uses professional soccer and team sports coaching programs to education and empower over 1 million people across Indonesia.

Jakarta Bintangs Australian Football Club

ISCI has an excellent expatriate soccer team , playing regular fixtures against Indonesian leagues and overseas visiting teams. The ISCI Soccer Section also provides coaching for children. The Annual Six-a-Side Soccer Tournament is held every September.

Jakarta Schools Football Association - operates the Coca Cola Schools Football League with inter-schools competitive football for under 9, 11, 13 and 15 age groups.

Organized by parents for children attending JIS schools. Program is predominantly attended by girls, though boys are also welcome.

A professional gymnastics team, Supreme Gymnastics, works out at the PIE campus of JIS.

Ice Hockey is played at Sky Rink on the 3rd floor of the Taman Anggrek Mall.

Jazzercise

There are several Jazzercise groups or classes that meet at various community locations.

Martial Arts

There are numerous martial arts groups in Jakarta. Check with your sports club or fitness center. Most are predominantly Indonesian, but there are many for expatriates as well. Taekwondo available at UFE.

ISCI's active Taekwondo Section provides lessons for children and adults and competes in local tournaments.

Running and Jogging

HASH House Harriers and Jakarta Hash House Harriettes - fun runs organized for amateur runners and serious joggers. Crowds of joggers run around the Monumen Nasional on Sunday mornings.

Jakarta Free Spirit has weekly runs and organizes larger scale running events.

Sky Diving

Avid snooker fans can enjoy snooker at ISCI.

The Jakarta Softball Association organizes men and women's softball and runs through two seasons of league play in the year.

Squash - SODS

ISCI Sports Center has 5 squash courts. The squash section runs regular club nights and runs 3 teams in the Jakarta Squash League. ISCI also hosts the Indonesian Squash Open Tournament each May.

Squash courts are available in some fitness centers in Jakarta as well.

Surfing

Good surf spots along the southern West Java coastline with access from Pelabuhan Ratu.

Swimming

The JIS Aquadragons is a competitive swim team, open to kids not attending JIS as well. You can also See their info on the Youth Sports Council site.

The Blue Marlins swim team practices at the AERA Club and is open to children from age 5 to 14. You do not need to be a member of AERA to join.

ISCI has a large swimming pool and conducts competitions regularly for kids.

Track & Field

Jakarta Junior Athletics, a community-run Track and Field program for girls and boys 5 – 11 years old. Run at Jakarta International School on the artificial track, usually during April and May each year. For more information, please contact Virginia at absd.vosper@gmail.com

Tennis

There are numerous private and public tennis courts in parks, apartment buildings and housing complexes, fitness centers, sports clubs and other recreation facilities.

ISCI has 7 gravel courts and 1 hard court and holds regular tournaments and matches.

Bagus Sport organzies tennis, golf, and surfing activities (in French) in Jakarta and puts on a tennis surf camp in Bali.

Volleyball play is organized by the UFE - the French Women's Association.

White Water Rafting

The Citarik River’s head waters located in the Mount Halimun National Park ensure cool, clean and beautiful water. The rapids are class III which mean they are suitable for beginners while providing enough white water excitement for more experienced rafters.

Waterskiing

Waterskiing is available at Jatiluhur reservoir, West Java; Carita Beach, West Java; Thousand Islands; and in Tanjung Lesung, West Java (dry season only)

Windsurfing

Windsurfing is available in some of the resorts on the western and southern coasts of Java, as well as at several of the resorts in the Thousand Islands and at the Horizon Hotel in Ancol.

Yoga

There are a number of yoga studios in Jakarta and Bali.
