Membership

Membership in Jakarta Free Spirit is open to women and men of all nationalities. Current active membership is about 130.

The cost of membership is Rp 250,000 for a year (single) or Rp 400,000 for a (couple/family including kids).  This entitles you to regular email notices of group runs and upcoming running events, discounts on race entries, social events and puts you in touch with the local network of runners in your area. We also have a Facebook page with news and running advice.  Some of our members train for triathlons, iron man races and more extreme ultra running, but the majority just run for fun, fitness and the social side and because we can't stand treadmills!

Our distinctive fluorescent green JFS running shirts can be seen at most running events in Jakarta and further afield, particularly the blue ribbon Singapore marathon/half marathon/10k in December every year. We give away most of our surplus cash every year to the charity we support; Mary's Cancer Kids, many of whom come to enjoy the spectacle of our Zoo Run every year (and to see the other animals!!).

Activities are held in English.

Activities

We get together every Saturday morning at 6.30am to run and walk at the Ragunan Zoo, where we do 5k loops in the cool leafy boulevards.  This activity is suitable for all abilities including kids, who can also bring their bikes and cycle round if they wish.

We also have Sunday morning longer runs from 15 to 25k around the kampungs and flood canals of Jakarta, at about 6 - 6.5 mins/km pace, which start from McDonalds Kemang at 6 am - a really great way to see a different side of the city.

ther smaller groups run together during the week, including around and inside the Senayan National Stadium (Gelora Bung Karno), and in the Kemang and Pondok Indah districts.

We put on the annual Jakarta Free Spirit Zoo 5k Zoo Run as part of the Jakarta 5k Race Series, as well as several 10k/Half Marathons each year.

All ability levels are welcome.
