In January 2000, the Living in Indonesia web site was awarded the Bagus Award ...

Living in Indonesia, A Site for Expatriates [www.expat.or.id] Januari 2000

Seen from a point of originality, this site might be the best example for Indonesian webmasters. The site's content, idea and purpose are very original. More than that, this is one of the few 'pioneer sites' that have been online since they began in 1997. Even now, the site is still developing with a variety of facilities like online ads, online forums, and postcards that are appropriate for foreign workers in Indonesia.

Seen from a point of professionalism, this site 'seems' to be able to stand by its self financially. Maybe this is supported by attraction of the 'purchasing power' of the expats themselves - You could even say that in this aspect it might be hard for the commercial webmasters to compete with this site, even though technically at this time many Indonesian sites are professional. But this is the result of the hard work of the creators of this site in the first place!

The drawbacks of this website might only be in technical aspects, a few of the functions that use CGI scripts aren't attractive or look like they're 'just functional'. But these drawbacks are small compared to the original content and ideas that are worth following.

Ditinjau dari sudut orisinalitas, situs ini mungkin contoh terbaik bagi para webmaster Indonesia. Baik isi, ide maupun tujuan situs sangat orisinal. Lebih dari itu situs ini salah satu dari sedikit 'situs pelopor' yang masih bertahan sejak awal dimulai tahun 1997. Bahkan saat ini masih terus berkembang dengan aneka fasilitas seperti iklan online, forum online serta kartupos yang sesuai untuk para pekerja asing di Indonesia.

Ditinjau dari sudut profesionalisme, situs ini 'tampaknya' sudah bisa berdiri sendiri secara ekonomi. Mungkin ini didukung oleh daya tarik dari 'daya beli' para expat itu sendiri ... Bahkan bisa dibilang kalau untuk aspek ini mungkin sulit bagi para webmaster situs komersial untuk menyaingi situs ini meski secara teknis saat ini banyak situs Indonesia yang mumpuni. Tapi inilah buah dari kejelian para pembuat situs ini di saat awalnya!

Kekurangan situs ini mungkin hanya aspek teknis, yaitu tampak beberapa fungsi yang memakai CGI 'kurang' indah tampilannya atau tampak asal jalan. Tetapi kekurangan ini terasa kecil bila dibandingkan dengan 'isi' serta 'ide' orisinil yang patut diteladani.
