Gangga is the first of the Sangihe Islands that lie between Sulawesi and the Philippines. Of volcanic origin and covered with rainforest, it is surrounded by coral reefs and white beaches.
The Gangga Island Resort is perfectly situated. With its more than 25 world-class diving locations, the waters around the island offer a wonderful variety of marine life. The island is the home of the Bajau fishermen who colonized the coast and some of the surrounding islands in the distant past. These friendly people live in two villages called Gangga Satu and Gangga Dua. Tondano, the capital of the Minahasa district, a town near Lake Tondano, is renowned for its remnant of an active volcano, Mount Lokon. It is situated on a plateau approximately 700 meters above sea level, surrounded by a magnificent country view with cool mountain air. The local Minahasa people believe that they are descendants of Toar and Lumimuut, two legendary divinities of Minahasa mythology.
