About Sisters
Mission Statement: As Sisters in Islam, we dedicate ourselves to service to God and society by providing an English language information and support center for women and anyone else in the larger community who wishes to learn more about Islam.
Established in 1997, SISTERS functions as a support group for expatriate women of other religions considering marrying, or who have married Moslems, and would like to know more about Islam. In our weekly fellowship meetings we read the Quran, and the various interpretations of it, to discuss how this can be applied to modern life as well as learn more about the tenets and rituals of Islam. These sessions are informal, attended only by women, and are geared towards seeking spiritual development.
SISTERS has started a new program: we are learning how to read the Qur'an properly and will eventually translate, interpret and discuss the read passages. We will get together every Saturday 09.00 in South Jakarta.
Aside from this, SISTERS holds monthly open-forum discussions as well as short courses on Islam, twice a year.
