Are you staying in Jakarta over the school vacation and wondering how to keep your children happy and occupied? Some of the schools and clubs are offering summer camps with a great variety of educational and enjoyable activities for the little ones. Here are some suggestions: Discovery Center Preschool Summer Camp 2011Every summer Discovery Center Preschool organizes a special Summer Camp Program for kindergarten and pre-school children. The Parent and toddler program is also available during the summer. The summer camp is held at both Discovery Center locations in Cipete and Menteng. The summer camp has two themes, Dinosaur Adventure and Bears, Bears Everywhere, each lasting 4 weeks and children can join on a weekly basis. Activities are organized and led by Discovery Center teachers and their assistants with an emphasis on learning while having fun, and include music, art, dance, drama, cooking projects, science experiments, computer games and special events such as field trips, parties, cookouts and fishing. Tutor Time International Preschool & Kindergarten Summer Programs 2011Tutor Time International Preschool and Kindergarten will have an exciting alternative learning program in June and July for children aged 1 to 6 years with fun projects and activities organized by Tutor Time teachers and special guests. The emphasis is on creative problem solving, using a wide variety of art media, active physical games, math and science concepts through cooking activities, wildlife and nature and other fun activities. Bambino International Preschool Summer School 2011Bambino International Preschool’s summer school is held for four weeks at the end of the school year. Any child between the ages of two and seven years may participate, including those not from Bambino Pre-School. The program is intended to be just fun, fun, fun, but participants would still be able to learn about the Bambino experience. Center’s annual summer camp runs for 8
weeks from June 13 to August 12. The
daily program is designed for three
separate age groups with a variety of
interests and skills in mind and includes
lots of fun and creative activities for
children aged 2½ to 12. JICC’s summer
camp encourages children to have fun as
they broaden their knowledge, cultivate
their creativity and make new friends.
Exciting excursions are held each Friday,
such as kite making and flying, ice skating,
horse riding and pottery workshop. Children can attend for a day, week or for
the full summer camp session. To

the summer! JIS Academy Summer Program 2011Jakarta International School’s JIS Academy 2011 Summer Program starts in June and offers activities for a wide age range. The program is open to both JIS and non JIS students. JIS Academy offers a wide range of fun-filled, stimulating courses and programs for children ages 3 – 12, including Stepping Stones day camps and afternoon programs, Elementary Day Camps and Programs, Afternoon Programs and Back to School Programs. All Elementary programs are supervised by an experienced JIS teacher and supported by JIS classified staff and high school counselors. The programs have been specifically designed to meet the diverse interests and needs of individual students while the hands on approach and camp- style atmosphere provides a rich and enjoyable learning environment. For Middle and High School students JIS Academy summer courses provide opportunities for students to strengthen and hone their academic skills over the summer holidays. Classes of interest are also available to students who would like to experiment with different subject areas. In addition to academic programs, some sports programs are also offered. The American Club Summer Camp 2011 is open to non members as well as members and children can join up for either or both sessions. Session 1 runs from July 11 to 15 and Session 2 from July 18 to 22 starting at 9.00 am until 12.00 noon for children aged 4 - 6 years old and 9.00 am - 3.00 pm for children aged 7 - 11 years old. Both sessions offer sports, games, crafts and lots of fun. Outward Bound Indonesia 2011Outward Bound Indonesia (OBI), a member of Outward Bound International, has over the last 21 years helped to develop more than 70,000 people of all ages. OBI holds the highest standards of staff, safety and program quality. This year, from July 3 to 9, Outward Bound will hold a summer program for youth aged 11-18 years called POWER TEEN Camp & Expedition. This is a youth character development program that helps teens to discover their hidden potentials, improve their self esteem and confidence, and sharpen teamwork and leadership skills through adventure and challenge. The 7-day program will be conducted at Outward Bound Indonesia’s Eco Campus location in Jatiluhur, West Java (1.5 hours from Jakarta). The outdoor activities comprise camping, outdoor cooking, ropes challenge, mountain climbing, canoeing and live-in with local villagers. Junior Green Supercamp 2011From July 5 to 11, 2011, the world’s first Junior Green Supercamp will take place in Bali, attended by children from around the world.
